Panthers win two on the road

The Saratoga Panthers added two wins to their overall record last weekend with a win against North Park 54-37 and Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) 46-39.

Head coach Joe Johnston said the boys are playing hard and playing as a team. He credits that with the success they had last weekend.

With the team coming together at the end of the regular season, Johnston is still concentrating on one game at a time. Friday, the Panthers (2-5, 2A Southeast; 6-12 overall) host Lusk (5-2, 2A Southeast; 14-15).

Their last conference match up was brutal with Saratoga scoring 45 points to Lusk’s 71.

Johnston’s biggest concern is making sure his team stays healthy as they wrap up the regular season. Last week he had four varsity players out with sickness for both non-conference games.

Johnston wants to get everyone healthy, then work on the defense, screening and offense in preparation for Lusk.

“We will concentrate on the little things,” Johnston said. The team needs a win this weekend, but Johnston said he will concentrate on Lusk before thinking about Southeast on Saturday.

The Panthers will travel to Yoder for the last regular game of the season. The Panthers squeaked past the Cyclones 47-46 on their home court earlier in the season.

The game against Lusk begins on Friday at 3:30 p.m., with junior varsity play.

Game time in Yoder is 1 p.m.
