SCWEMS finding its feet

New representatives to the South Central Wyoming Emergency Management Services (SCWEMS) Joint Powers Board Donna Pipher and Kelly Ralston attended their first regular meeting of the board Jan. 14.

Pipher is the new Carbon County representative, taking Mark Kostovny’s seat. Ralston is taking the seat briefly held by Gary Stull, representing Riverside. The Town of Saratoga had not appointed a representative to fill the vacancy left by Bill Dahlke by the time of the meeting.

SCWEMS sought a State Land and Investment Board Grant last year for three new ambulances. According to Heidi Sifford and Stephanie Colman the grant request was not approved. Sifford and Colman said they were going to attend last weeks SLIB meeting to make a case for the need for new ambulances. SCWEMS is still working on a service agreement for the Town of Hanna and tabled renewing the lease agreement with the town of Saratoga for the ambulance barn in Saratoga.

The board approved the research of a Emergency Management Responder (EMR) class by Virginia Parker and Helen Weiland. In order for the class to go forward there needs to be enough interest to make it economically viable. There was some debate over what the age limits should be on such a class since only person 18 years or older can obtain the EMR certificate and much of the interest so far has been from younger teenagers.
