Tigers double up on Wildcats, fall to Rattlers

The Encampment boys basketball team doubled the score of the North Park Wildcats and then had their lowest scoring game in a loss to the Little Snake River Rattlers this weekend.

Encampment (8-10) handily took down the Walden, Colo., team (1-5) in a 72-36 beat down. Coach Clint Bromley said the Encampment team started slow in the first half which ended with the Tigers up 25-21.

"It was pretty much second half ball game for us." Bromley said, adding "We came out in the third and fourth quarter and looked really sharp as a ball club and never looked back."

Asked about what he said to the team at halftime Bromley said they talked about execution and getting everybody on the same page.

During the win senior Luke Pantle had a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds while junior Guy Erickson had 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Bromley said the team shot 51 percent as a team during the game but misses from outside the arc kept the score down.

The Saturday game in Baggs was a different story. Bromley said that most of the boys on the team have never won a game in Baggs and that brings some baggage with it.

The Encampment boys varsity squad has been averaging 67 points a game, only to score 28 against Little Snake River. The final score was 28-43.

Bromley said he can't fault his teams defense as they kept the Rattlers to 10 points under their average, but they did some "foolish things".

Based on Bromley's account of the game, Encampment players were having to play out of position, such as player's who don't normally inbound the ball taking on that role.

Bromley complimented the Little Snake River team for playing smart and being a quality ball team.

Encampment has two conference games this coming weekend and Bromley said they will be hard fought and highly contested. "We have got to mentally get off the bus and be ready to play," Bromley said.

The Tigers will be at Cokeville with the junior varsity game starting at 4 p.m. on Friday and at Farson-Eden with basketball games starting at noon on Saturday.
