SVFD for district

Editor,

This letter is to the residents of Carbon County. As Chief and Assistant Chief of the Saratoga Volunteer Fire Department, we would like to encourage the proposed Fire District for Carbon County. There are many pro’s to having a Fire District within our community. For one, firefighters will be more uniformed training and equipped throughout the county. The cost of personal protection equipment (PPE) and other fire fighting apparatus used to keep your firemen safe comes at a high cost, and sadly this equipment does not last forever. A Fire District will help pay for this equipment and the maintenance needed to keep firefighters safe. There’s a lot that goes into keeping a fire department going. Tremendous amounts of time are spent keeping up with the required testing and certification of the trucks, airpacks, hoses and other apparatus for the department.

The fire trucks and equipment that we use for fighting home/structure fires and wild land fires need to be in the best mechanical condition possible. We have all learned that as time passes the task of keeping equipment up becomes difficult.

We encourage the residents of Carbon County to visit the Fire District website to learn more (www.carboncountyfiredistrict.org) and we also encourage you to contact anyone on the steering committee for questions or concerns that you may have.

Regards,

Randy Sikes, Chief

Pat Waliser, Assistant Chief
