Skunks causing a stink

Apparently, skunks have taken up residence under the old Riverside Town Hall.

At the Riverside Town Council meeting on Thursday trapping the current striped residents and putting a barrier around the foundation to prevent new animals from moving in was discussed.

Skunks have previously been removed from the property and released into the mountains.

The town of Riverside plans to financially support Encampment’s purchase of a new mosquito fogger because there have been problems with the available fogger truck this year. The money for the fogger will come out of the Riverside’s general funds since the mosquito grant money cannot be used for equipment. The town council voted to split the balance of the new mosquito fogger with Encampment after any other interested parties donate to the cause.

There was discussion of using Carbon County Consensus Block Grant funding to install a Frisbee golf course in Riverside, possibly in conjunction with the town of Encampment. The course at Rick Martin Memorial Park would be six to nine holes, with the possibility of more holes on the rendezvous grounds in Encampment.

Helen Weiland, SCWEMS representative for the town, informed the board that SCWEMS is seeking pre-approval for a grant to fund the installation of pediatric restraints in all of the ambulances. SCWEMS is also seeking a grant for a new ambulance once one of the older ambulances can be cycled out of the service.

Discussion of Riverside’s support of the service, in light of recent issues over a financial audit of the service, discrepancies in volunteer on-call pay and the potential resignation of Bill Dahlke from the joint powers board. There was no resolution to the board’s SCWEMS concerns at the meeting. The next town council meeting be Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.
