Wyoming native and former Carbon County resident Roscoe Roland Countryman, 95, died at his home in Payson, Utah on July 19, 2010.
Memorial services were held for him Monday, July 26, at the Walker Mortuary in Payson. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 4. A local memorial service will be held at a later date in Rawlins when his cremains will then be placed in the family plot in the Rawlins Cemetery. Mr. Countryman was born Jan. 14, 1918, in Split Rock, Wyo., to Ronald Roscoe and Mary Etta (Collings) Countryman. He grew up in Rawlins and was a graduate of the Rawlins high school. He married Nadine Lawson on Feb. 19, 1935, in Rawlins and the couple lived and worked in Carbon County for several years.
Roscoe served in the Army in World War II as a mechanic in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Following WWII, he worked as a heavy equipment operator and master mechanic for many different contractors, building dams and roads throughout Wyoming and Utah. Moving countless times to follow the work, Roscoe and Nadine finally settled in Utah Valley and their home in Payson in the 1980’s.
After retiring in 1978 he enjoyed gardening and keeping a beautiful yard, as well as helping and caring for many friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Elks Club and VFW. He is survived by his wife Nadine, a niece Carole Kirk and husband Neal and family of Saratoga, as well as many friends along the way.
