James Lennon Kennaday died at his home in Saratoga on Wednesday Aug. 25, 2010. At his request, no services will be held. Cremation has taken place.
James was born Nov. 24, 1933 in Saratoga, the son of Edward Thomas and Alice Marie (Mannahan) Kennaday. He graduated with the Saratoga High School class of 1952. He married Janet Smith Aug. 30, 1975, in Rawlins.
James was the chief of police for Saratoga for 16 years, and he retired in 1984. He was a volunteer for the National Weather Service and community of Saratoga for 31 years. In recognition of his dedication, he received the 1995 John Campanius Holm Award for outstanding accomplishment in the field of meteorological observations.
James was a great outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and camping. He would pack up the family and a picnic on Saturday morning and spend the day driving out in the country. They would return at night and do it all over again on Sunday. He loved to drive trucks. James was always picking up stray dogs and taking them home to care for.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, Saratoga, children; Janet M. Kennaday, Saratoga, Michelle Kennaday, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Jamie (Marty) Powell, Canon City, Colo., James W. Kennaday, Calahan, Colo., Edward T. (Joni) Kennaday, Saratoga, Ronald (Hazel) Smith, Gillette, Wyo., seven grandchildren; Nate Kennaday, Amber Hovenic, Ryan Powell, Cheyanne, Kaitlynne, Jeremiah Kennaday, Daniel (Becca) Smith; three great grandchildren: Makaila, Zach Smith, Cistene Hovenic.
James was the last living member of his family (parents and siblings). |
