Popular indie band coming to Riverside
Tuesday, August 10 2010 By Liz Wood
Thursday night, the Bear Trap Café and Bar is going to be rockin’.
Cracker, who has just finished a one-and one-half-year tour promoting their latest album, will be performing in Riverside.
The rock group has been to Europe and back and has a full schedule this summer.
The group has produced nine albums with two going platinum and one going gold.
John Hickman, lead singer in the band, said he likes to travel to areas and check out acoustic shows and then come back with the full band.
This will be Hickman and the band’s first trip to the Platte Valley.
Hickman grew up in a small town in California and said he likes to perform for the small town audiences.
Hickman, who plays lead guitar, co-writes songs with his 20-year partner David Lowery, who is the lead singer in the band. Lowery and Hickman founded the band. Frank Funaro has played drums with the band for 14 years and Sal Maida has been playing bass with the band for four years.
They write most of their music, but perform a few covers every now and then, said Hickman in a phone interview.
The newest album, Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey has a song called “Hand Me My Inhaler”. Hickman said that David wrote the song rather quickly, but it has a character about a hopeless guy who shows up in their songs.
Hickman lives in Ft. Collins, Funaro and Maida live in New York and Lowery lives in Richmond, Va.
Hickman said most of their practice time is while they are on the road. Their six week tour this summer will end in Pioneer Town, Calif., where they will host the annual Camp Out Festival.
Hickman said that their strength is their live shows. “Come discover us, we will put on a good rock show for you.”
Patti Fiasco will kick off the outdoor concert at 7 p.m., with Cracker following. There is a $15 fee for the concert. Hickman said the band will have their CDs on sale during the concert. |
