Town officials apply for street construction grant

100 Years Ago August 11, 1910 Last Sunday was a big day at Elk Mountain, which was celebrated by a picnic. Music was furnished by the Hanna band. Horse racing, target shooting and foot racing occupied the day. A dance was held in the evening.
Fred Nelson took the purse for best riding. Elk Mountain has never witnessed a larger crowd and everyone had an enjoyable time.
75 Years Ago August 8, 1935 The official story of the flight of Tom Horn to escape the noose, Wyoming’s most famous murder case, has been turned over to the State Historical Department.
The “Story” is contained in a volume of certified copies of the official court record in the case. The records were donated to the department by Harry J. Shad of Cheyenne an employee of the Regional Agricultural Credit corporation.
The records include the bill of exceptions filed with the supreme court, the motion for a new trial and other details of the trial.
50 Years Ago August 11, 1960 A fire at the R.R. Crow & Co. mill on Cow Creek, Thursday night resulted in only small damages, according to Dave Crow, Mill Manager.
He said no definite account of damages had been made yet.
The fire burned for about an hour.
25 Years Ago August 8, 1985 Saratoga town officials have applied for a $494,600 grant from the Wyoming Loan Board to help with a proposed $700,000 street construction in town.
Specific areas to receive reconstruction and type of pavement called chip seal, haven’t been designated yet. Although streets on the west side of town and below Hugus Ditch are the most likely candidates.
The Farm Loan Board will probably decide on awarding the grant by the end of October. |
