The Saratoga Panthers earned a position in the 2A West regional tournament with a sound 59-10 play-in win against Shoshoni, but could not get past number-one seed Greybull in the first game of the tournament play.

“Against Greybull, the boys fought hard. With about three-and-one-half minutes left, it was only a three points game. We played well, but Greybull made some big shots to increase their lead,” Head Coach Josh Sandlian wrote.

When the final buzzer sounded, the Buffaloes were on top 36-28.

On Friday morning, the Panthers took on Rocky Mountain in the consolation bracket.

Sandlian said the game was “probably the most exciting...I’ve been a part of.”

The Panthers edged their Big Horn County opponents 56-50.

This put Saratoga up against Wind River, on Saturday morning.

The stakes for the game were high, as the winner would bounce back to have a spot in the State Tournament.

Wind River won 52-31, in a game where Saratoga “struggled a bit,” according to Sandlian.

“It’s not that we played poorly, but we just couldn’t seem to buy a bucket. The kids gave everything that they had,” Sandlian added.

“Overall, I think this was a great season. We have some seniors who will be missed. I want to thank Ben, Nate, Paul, Sam, Joe, and Austin for working hard and being a good group of seniors,” Sandlian said.
