After receiving only one letter of interest for the council seat vacated by Dr. John Collamer, the Saratoga Town Council emerged from executive session with a unanimous decision to award the opening to former councilman Mike McWain.

McWain told the council he looks forward serving the community again.

The Wyoming Liquor Commission (Commission) notified the council, and the American Legion, that the Legion should not be selling alcohol or malt beverages off premise as the Legion carries a limited liquor license. The limited license allows for sale of alcohol or malt beverages on premise to members and guests of the establishment. The Commission informed the council if a catering permit were issued to the Legion for the upcoming ice-fishing derby, the Legion’s liquor license could be in jeopardy. With this information in mind, Councilman McWain made a motion, with regret, that the town not issue the Legion a catering permit for the ice fishing derby. The vote was unanimous, with Councilwoman Judy Welton abstaining from the vote.

In other business, the council passed Resolution 2010-02 concerning the financing of the specific purpose tax project for the town’s water meter project.

The police department asked the council for permission to submit two speed sign grant requests for trailer-mounted and pole-mounted speed signs. The council unanimously approved the requests. The signs would be placed on Rochester, Highway 130 (First Street) and near the school zones on Elm Street.

Finally the council passed, on first reading, Ordinance 782 which makes check fraud unlawful within the corporate limits of the Town of Saratoga.
