27th Annual Fishing Derby begins Saturday

This weekend marks the 27th Annual Saratoga Ice Fishing Derby, augering and angling will begin on the Saratoga Lake at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Fishermen and women will be competing for $6,000 in cash prizes over the fun-filled weekend.
The top fishermen will have the opportunity to win $2,000 for reeling in the largest fish of the two-day event, while second and third places will win $1,000 and $500, respectively.
The largest fish measured each hour during the two-day event will be awarded $100, while the pink-tagged bounty fish will be worth $500.
For youth under 14, the “Small Fry” tournament has a grand prize of a $200 saving bond and a merchandise package as well as hourly awards of $20.
Door prizes will be given each hour during the two-day derby.
Registration for the event is $30 for adult anglers and $10 for Small Fry. All interested anglers can register at the Saratoga/Platte Valley Chamber of Commerce office at 210 West Elm Street in Saratoga, at the lake Saturday morning beginning at 6 a.m. or at any Saratoga or Encampment retail businesses that sell fishing licenses.
The American Legion Auxiliary will provide concessions during the derby.
