Kelly Ralston was appointed as the Riverside representative to the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Service (SCWEMS) board. Ralston will replace Gary Stull who was elected to the Encampment town council and can no longer serve on the SCWEMS board as it would violate the SCWEMS bylaws. Stull suggested Ralston for his replacement in a letter to the town council. Only two members of the general public attended an open meeting for the revision of the Carbon County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The meeting was hosted by Emergency Management Coordinator John Zieger and consultant Barb Beck. Town Engineer Chuck Bartlett and Town Clerk Suzie Cox were also on hand for the meeting. Saratoga native, Sam Platts, and his band, The Kootenai Three, will headline a family-oriented New Year’s Eve dance at the Platte Valley Community Center. The event, sponsored by the Valley Service Organization, had a similar dance party before Christmas last year. The dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m., Dec. 31 in the Great Hall at PVCC. The Platte Valley Food Pantry has a long history of fulfilling the needs of those experiencing tough financial times. Without the generosity of the Platte Valley community, the food pantry would not exist, volunteer Janice Kerpan said. Whether it is food staples or money, the food pantry makes good use of the donations. Over the past year, the food pantry has assisted 235 families in the Platte Valley and surrounding areas. Responses to a Carbon County School District No. 2 (CCSD#2) survey drew mixed results from community members. The results from the Nov. 2014 survey were posted on the CCSD#2 website and are now available for public viewing. Wyoming residents who have completed hunter education instructor certification in the last three years are invited to attend the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s annual Hunter Education Instructor Academy to be held June 26-28 at the Whiskey Mountain Conservation Camp near Dubois. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department stocked 1,300 2-year old brood cull rainbow trout into Saratoga Lake last Wednesday. This effort is part of their yearly stocking of the lake, and is timed to support the 32nd Annual Saratoga Ice Fishing Derby to be held Jan. 17 and 18. On Dec. 8, the Saratoga High School team of seniors in the “We are the People” competition qualified for the Wyoming State Finals to be held in Laramie, Jan. 26. The Saratoga Panthers (1-3) beat the Hanna/Elk Mountain/Medicine Bow (HEM) Miners (2-2) Friday night 54-46. The Encampment Tigers (6-1) put on a show for their fans Dec. 16 with a solid win against the North Park (Walden) Wildcats. The win was particularly sweet for senior Luke Pantle, who attended school in Walden before moving to Encampment.
