  • Volunteers appreciated

    Sagebrush Seniors|Dec 12, 2012

A little snow and it is wonderful. I’m just waiting for us to get dumped on, and that will be fine, too, as long as the wind doesn’t blow! The coffee, chuckles, and chatter ladies kept things humming each morning with Connie Beckham, Patty Herring, LeDawn Vorn, Jo Bonnett, Laura Rettelle and Arleigh Simmons participating. The dedicated dominoers also kept things humming, but that would be every afternoon. Due to a fall recently, Julia Priquet has been conspicuously missing from the group. We miss you, Julia. Those managing without her were Made...

  • STARS program help students transition to Junior High

    Tom Dixon|Dec 12, 2012

The transition from sixth grade to seventh grade is tough. The level of difficulty and amount of work means students must spend more time and be more organized. In the past, many students have had to deal with those changes on their own, but thanks to the new STARS program, Encampment seventh graders know a handful of students, and a teacher, will always have their back. “A lot of students were going home to places where no one was asking them what is going on, and so there was no accountability,” Leslie McLinskey, Encampment English tea...

  • It’s the end of the world as we know it ... and I feel fine

    Keith McLendon|Dec 12, 2012

Apocalypses have been predicted pretty much since there have been civilizations to cower in fear of them. Since one of the “biggies” is just around the corner I thought this week timely to explore some earlier world-shattering (or not) prophesies.1 Rome’s End. The Romans thought the world would end in 634 B.C. because supernatural eagles told Romulus, Rome’s founder, his civilization would only last 120 years. Romans panicked as the city neared the eventually uneventful anniversary. Really.... Full story

  • Ladies Night Out a big hit

An idea that was tossed around at a Saratoga Recreation Commission earlier this year saw success Nov. 29. “Ladies Night Out” attracted 55 paying customers, Lisa Burton, Saratoga recreation director, said. Burton had 17 vendors sign up for the event and the comment she heard the most was shoppers did not realize how many direct sales people were in the area. One vendor came from Elk Mountain and another from Craig, the rest were locals. “It was a chance for exposure at Ladies Night Out,” Burton...
