Joseph B. Stolns, 72, of Saratoga died April 2, 2014 at the Veteran’s Affairs Hospital in Cheyenne. He was born Oct. 8, 1941 in Superior, Colorado to Lewis and Mary Ann Stolns. He worked as a water well driller. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, International Order of Oddfellows, American Legion Post #54, a Past Master of Masonic Lodge #14, a charter member of the VFW in Encampment and a 53-year member of the Volunteer Fire Dept. Saratoga Town Hall was filled with young faces at the April 1 town council meeting. More than a dozen students from Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) met with the council and the mayor to propose changes to the 2014 Saratoga Cancer Walk. Wellness screenings coming to Saratoga, Encampment and Hanna this month offer 13 different tests to assess the health of individuals participating, plus additional screenings for blood pressure and possibly bone density. A Saratoga resident was involved in a fatal traffic wreck on April 1. Twenty-four year old Shane F. Grove, originally from Dubois, Wyo., died after he was thrown from his vehicle near Encampment. According a release from the Wyoming State Patrol (WSP), Julie A. The Wyoming Water Development Office has suspended cloud seeding operation in the Medicine Bow and Sierra Madre Ranges portion of the Wyoming Weather Modification Pilot Program (WWMPP) because of current snowpack conditions. Just as the weather starts to warm up, the town of Saratoga will be down one public park. Veterans Island Park will be closed to the public during parts of this summer to make way for the pedestrian bridge project. After being closed for minor damage in January, the bridge near Flying Diamond Ranch has been repaired and is open to traffic. Workers from Simon Contractors had been removing rivets and angle irons and replacing cords on the bridge, which crosses the Encampment River on County Road 680, since March 26.
