Because of some changes to the Affordable Care Act—ACA or Obamacare as it is commonly known—premiums for Wyoming residents who purchase policies on the government exchange website have gone up. However, according to figures published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS, about 90 percent of Wyoming residents will qualify for a health insurance plan with monthly premiums of $75 or less. An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of Gulliver’s Travels from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 13 at the Platte Valley Community Center Theater. The National Wild Turkey Foundation (NWTF) will be holding and informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Platte Valley Community Center. Regional Director Jason Tarwater will be present to show what the organization is doing across Wyoming and the nation for wildlife conservation, and our Hunting Heritage. The Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District (UPRSWDD) board convened 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Encampment Library to discuss the problem of trash being deposited in dumpsters on Veterans Island and to hear two local resident’s views on the new transfer station. A large contingent of Barkhursts showed up at the Town and Country office Wednesday to accept the Platte Valley Arts Council award for the council's recent hay bale sculpture competition. Permits to cut Christmas trees on the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests are now available. Each permit costs $10 and allows for the cutting of one tree on National Forest System Lands. There is a limit of five permits per household. Trees must be for personal use, not for resale. The permit must be clearly displayed around the stem of the tree before leaving the cutting area. T'lysa Solaas, a member of the Bow River chapter of Future Farmers of America (FFA) came in 8th in the Environmental/Natural Resources Systems category in the Division 1 of this year's FFA National competition. The Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Lady Miners volleyball team had no doubt they were going to have a very tough road at State facing the Cokeville Lady Panthers in the their first competition. The Wyoming Association of Municipalities (WAM) had their Fall Workshop in Saratoga Nov. 1-3 at the Saratoga Resort and Spa. On Thursday, at 3:30 p.m. Amanda Sewell, the assistant director of Wyoming State Lands and Investments gave a presentation on the distribution of funds for municipalities. In Medicine Bow, Pam Glasser, is known as the Medicine Bow Lions Club president. To others in Carbon County, she is known as a music teacher. To fellow musicians and concert goers in Wyoming, Houston and Israel, Glasser is acknowledged as an accomplished French horn virtuoso.
