    Heavy hitters for Wyoming's second largest industry met in Saratoga at the Platte Valley Community Center Wednesday and Thursday for board meetings and round table discussions. The Wyoming Travel Industry Coalition (WTIC) and the Wyoming Lodging and Restaurant Association (WLRA) co-hosted the hospitality and tourism fall summit.   • Museum hosts Fall Festival

    The Grand Encampment Museum (GEM) will be hosting their first annual Fall Festival and Carnival October 22. The event, scheduled for between 3-6:30 p.m. Sunday will feature carnival games, a cake walk, trick or treating held around the museum’s boardwalk, history-filled hay rides, a costume parade and contest and a haunted trail.     The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (water and sewer board) met for a “record” short meeting Wednesday, staying in session for a mere 11 minutes before adjourning. During the meeting, the board dispensed with routine matters before hearing reports on projects of interest to the board, specifically the lagoon improvement project.     Lots were a subject that came up came up several times at the Encampment Town Council meeting held Thursday at 7 p.m. The town council their Sept. 14 minutes and paid the monthly bills and then listened to Sara Jane Ellis from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) as she explained what funds are available from the agency. “They are really trying to change the face of WYDOT and not be so much the big brother type with towns, but be more of a collaborative partner going forward,” Ellis said.     The Riverside Town Council met Thursday at 6 p.m. in the town hall and decided to approve a building permit with conditions. After approving the minutes of Sept. 14 and paying the bill, the first reading of liquor license revisions were approved. The mosquito problem for the summer was minimal in comparison to years past, members of the council noted as the last bill for the pests was paid.     The Hanna Town Council met Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. After routine approvals of the minutes from Sept. 12 and financial reports, the council went over reports from the different boards and departments. After months of talks with Ron Munson, the contractor for the Saratoga Landfill, an agreement was reached for Hanna to take waste from Saratoga. The Hanna landfill will be closed in 2020 and trash from Saratoga will be helpful in getting the landfill to a point where it is fits the Department of Environmental Quality’s criteria to close the pit.     Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School Miners football team went to Sheridan and handed the Normative Services High School Wolves a loss. All cylinders were firing for the Miners with outstanding plays by the entire team. The Miners beat the Wolves by a score of 84-19. “Tylor had two amazing interceptions and three touchdown passes,” Miners football coach Zack Scott said.     The crowds that streamed into the Tiger Den in Encampment Saturday went to see a volleyball match, but wound up with a marathon seesaw session between two top-ranked teams in the division. The match between the Encampment Tigers and the Little Snake River Valley School Rattlers was expected to be tough, but as it stretched into five games with almost every game going into extra points, the crowd got louder and louder cheering on their teams.     The Saratoga Lady Panthers had a mixed week last week, easily defeating the Lady Wildcats of North Park School of Walden, Colorado, at home but giving up Friday’s road game against the Cokeville Lady Panthers, reducing the chances for the team to make the playoffs this year. Thursday, the Panthers handily defeated the Wildcats of Colorado in three games, scoring 25-22 in the first, and 25-20 in the second and third games.     Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School volleyball had mixed results last week against three opponents. The Lady Miners lost a close one on Friday in back and forth sets and on Saturday, they won against both teams in a commanding fashion. Friday, the Lady Miners faced off against Wyoming Indian and it was a roller coaster ride for HEM.
