Barbara Daily Hooker, 95, of Rawlins, passed away on March 2, 2014, at Deseret Health Care and Rehabilitation in Saratoga. Barbara was born in Logan, Kansas on Dec. 16, 1918, to Otto and Tessa Mae Daily, and moved to Rawlins in the early 1920's. She married Homer H. Hooker, of Bairoil, on Aug. 16, 1940, in Moose Pass, Alaska. They were married 74 years. Barbara and Homer made their home in Rawlins in 1943, when they returned home, so Homer could go to war. The Valley Service Organization (VSO) is now accepting applications from graduating high school seniors for its 2014 Youth Citizenship Award worth $500.00. Carol Beach, VSO co-chairman for the award program with Melanie Fullman, said applications are now available from the counselors’ offices at the all Carbon County School District No. 2 high schools. A recent post on a social media site hit the nail on the head. “When citizens ask questions of their government, it means there is not enough transparency and communication. It doesn’t mean they are looking to discredit the elected officials and staff. Whose money is this anyway, and who are the government’s ‘customers’? A letter to the Editor and to Mayor Zeiger In the Mayor’s letter to the editor last week in this paper one sentence confused me –“In the last nine years there has never been a request for a copy of the audit. After the allegations of misappropriation of funds and the covering up of the same, I wasn’t surprised to have two people come in and request a copy of it.” As one of the folks who picked up a Town audit and was then maligned here, I want to be very clear - I have never suggested this administration misappropriated funds for their own use.... The mountain snow pack and associated snow water equivalents (SWE) were reported as “above average” for February. The Wyoming Weather Service reported that there is a moderate to high potential for flooding due to snow melt in the Encampment and Riverside area. The Saratoga Town Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on March 4. Town Engineer Chuck Bartlett discussed plans to re-stripe the parking lines downtown. The parking lines on Bridge Street are currently faded, making it difficult for patrons to park at local business. The last time the parking lines were striped was 2012. Saratoga Police Chief Tom Knickerbocker said, in the early morning of March 6, three cars were stolen in Saratoga. Two cars were stolen from Club Court and another car was taken from West Walnut.
