    The Saratoga Panthers football team may have gotten off to a few slow starts in its early games this season, but at its homecoming game Friday, the team resoundingly dominated their opponent from the game's opening kickoff to the end.     Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow High School (HEM) Football played an exhibition game with Cheyenne South for Homecoming when Rock River High School forfeited. The Bisons from Cheyenne brought younger players to the HEM football field, but the team was still physically large. The Miners were down four team members due to illness and Conor McGraw, who did participate, showed true heart by playing even though he was not well.     Two years ago, Lois Buchanan put her bar on the market because she felt it was time after 22 years. "I wanted to start on my bucket list and there are some things I would like to do," Buchanan said. "And with Daniel (her husband who passed away) being gone it just wasn't as interesting and I lost the enthusiasm for it. The bar needed a breath of life and I knew it."     The Saratoga Town Council met briefly for its second meeting of the month Tuesday, and board members were filled in on goings-on around town and in different departments.   • Seniors get exercise

    A security exercise has been scheduled to take place at the Saratoga Care Center this week, according to Carbon County Emergency Management Coordinator John Zeiger. The exercise is scheduled to take place sometime between Sept. 25-30 at the nursing home facility, Zeiger said. The purpose of the exercise is to assess the ability of local law enforcement agencies, other first responders and nursing home staff to coordinate with one another during an emergency situation.     The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (water and sewer board) met Wednesday after postponing its Sept. 13 meeting by a week. The board gave the final go-ahead for the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) property south of town to begin the process of joining the town’s water and sewer system, and also granted permission to the Old Baldy Club to tie into a town water line.     For its homecoming week, the Saratoga Middle/High School (SMHS) cross country team came home to host cross country teams from around the region during the Shana Ward Invitational, which was held Friday at the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort.     Gladys Vawser, 87, formerly of Saratoga, passed away peacefully in Fort Collins, Colorado, August 24, 2017. She is survived by her brother Robert Cross of Loveland, Colorado; sister Wilma Ray Perue of Saratoga; her children Bill Vawser of Hartland, Maine; David Vawser of Gresham, Oregan; Loren Vawser of Silverthorne, Colorado; Karen Jemison of Pittsburg, Kansas; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Gladys will be missed by all who knew her. She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother. The family has plans to get together next... Full story
