  • Saratoga faces cash flow problems

    According to a memo obtained by the Saratoga Sun from a source who wished to remain anonymous, the town of Saratoga is facing some cash flow problems. In the memo written by town clerk Susie Cox and delivered to the Saratoga Town Council prior to the town council’s last meeting Aug. 1, Cox warned council members cash flow had been disrupted and council members needed to address spending before the town found itself in a direr predicament. “We have tapped into our reserves at a rate that we have not seen in the past and there are no longer fun... Full story

    Margaret E. Ream, 95, of Greeley, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 in Greeley. She was born on March 13, 1922, in Sinclair to Alfred and Edith (Wise) McCargar. She grew up on a ranch, the oldest of eight children. Margaret was united in marriage to Marvin H. Ream on May 6, 1941 in Fort Collins. They moved to Greeley in 1942. She worked with Joslin's as an interior designer for homes. She later retired and served as a volunteer at the elementary schools. She loved helping children and even... Full story

    James Bernard "Ben" Swanson died August 9, 2017, in Redmond, Oregon, after a short illness. He was born in Cheyenne, on June 8, 1930 to Leo Swanson and Sophia Clements Swanson. Ben attended school on Spring Creek, in Encampment, Rawlins and Saratoga. He served in the Army in 1950 and 1951. Ben worked on several ranches in the Valley when he was younger. He moved to Oregon where he spent most of his adult life. He married Betty Young. They belonged to a riding club and Ben loved going on trail... Full story

  • Riverside to poll on WHATFest

    Riverside Town Council convened at 6 p.m. on Thursday to consider creating a poll for town residents on their opinion of the summer music event known as WHATFest. The Riverside Party Day preparations were also reviewed. The council approved the financials for the month of July.     Greg Salisbury, mayor of Encampment, went on record to say how grateful he was for all the work town clerk and her husband, Ron, did to make the Community Barbecue/Potluck, Community Garage Sale and Music in the Park a major success.     The Hanna Town Council met 6 p.m. Tuesday and made Ann Calvert the permanent Town Clerk and Vivian Gonzales the permanent Parks and Recreation Director. The council accepted Lois Buchanan’s resignation from the South Central Wyoming Emergency Medical Services board, which created an opening yet to be filled.   • Chitwood resigns board position

    Saratoga Airport Board member Bobby Chitwood announced that he is resigning his seat on the board in an email sent to several members of the board and town council. In the email which was also sent to the Saratoga Sun, Chitwood said he was out of town too often to give the necessary time to the board, and also cited a “conflict that apparently will not be resolved,” as reasons for his resignation.   • PUD to add zoning flexibility

    The town of Saratoga is closer to enacting a new development and regulatory process called Planned Unit Development, or PUD. Saratoga Planning Commission has been in the process of developing the PUD since early this year. The PUD process is intended to allow town planners flexibility in approving projects that do not strictly fall into any of the existing zoning types in the town’s existing zoning schema.     The Saratoga Museum held its fifth annual C.J. Box Trivia Night Fundraiser Saturday at the Platte Valley Community Center. The fundraiser brought in money for the museum and brought to town famous Wyoming author, and former Saratoga Sun reporter, C.J. Box.     A new nuisance ordinance will take effect in the town of Saratoga starting Sept. 1, but those believed to be in violation will have time to come into compliance with the new rules. The new ordinance is intended to address public health and safety hazards around town, as well as beautify the town, according to Planning Commission and Saratoga Town Council member Will Faust.     The agenda at the monthly meeting of the Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (Sewer Board) was mostly routine business, except for the “time bomb” laying on the table in front of sewer board Chairman Don Price.     In anticipation of the total solar eclipse and with a town full of observers, members of the First Presbyterian Church of Saratoga offer an “Eclipse Eve Community Dinner” Sunday, Aug. 20, from 5-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall on corner of Third and Bridge streets.
