The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) announced it will be doing a chip seal project on WY-130 (First Street in Saratoga) that will cause delays to motorists passing through town. The project is scheduled to begin July 31 and will continue until approximately Aug. 5, according to WYDOT. Richard “Rick” Dean Tyler Jr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday July 16, 2017 in Green River, Wyoming, at the age of 62. He was born July 10, 1955, in Denver to Richard “Dick” and Ruth Tyler. Richard was proceeded in death by his brother Michael Joseph Tyler; his father Richard Tyler and his mother Ruth Tyler. WHATFest, an annual music festival featuring dozens of bands over the course of a weekend, will return to Riverside Friday and Saturday. The event will be hosted at the Bear Trap Café & Bar at 120 Riverside Avenue in Riverside. According to the festival organizer’s website, 33 bands are expected to play over the course of the weekend. Jolene Pavelka, Bear Trap owner, said this year four food vendors are expected to sell at this year’s festival, including taco, burger and barbecue vendors. The U.S. Forest Service is hosting a science-focused public outreach day Saturday, July 29 at the Glacier Lakes Ecosystem Experiments Site, located in the Snowy Range of the Medicine Bow National Forest in Wyoming. A three-mile long, scientist-guided hike to the Glacier Lakes research site will depart from Brooklyn Lake Campground/Lost Lake Trailhead area at 9:30 a.m. Scientists will talk about the natural history of the area and their current research. Due to a culvert replacement and road surface repair project, a portion of Forest Road 103 (Twin Lakes Road) in the Snowy Range will be temporarily closed for approximately one week, beginning Monday, July 24. King Coal days started Friday with a community barbecue, baseball games and Texas Hold-em poker games and wrapped up Sunday with Mud Drags. There was a lot in between. The Carbon County School District No.2 (CCSD No.2) board of directors met Wednesday for what was at the time its final meeting before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Over 300 bike riders participating in the Tour de Wyoming cross-country bike ride called Saratoga home for two nights last week, not only taking in plenty of rest, relaxation and Valley hospitality, but also raising money for Saratoga Middle-High School (SMHS). The Saratoga Town Council met for its second meeting of the month Tuesday, and quickly disposed of agenda items.
