The Elk Mountain Public Library was full for its dedication ceremony on Monday. The initial fundraising for the library started on September 15, 2016 and the library was officially completed on July 8, 2017. The town of under 200 residents raised $230,000. Walter Scott and his family teamed up to raise almost 75 percent of the funds. The U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM) announced Tuesday it declared stage 1 fire restrictions for BLM lands in Carbon County. The move to enact fire restrictions follows that of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), which last week declared lands in the Medicine Bow National Forest in Carbon and Albany counties under stage 1 fire restrictions. The fire restrictions are necessary to prevent wildfires, the BLM said in a news release. Fresh off the 15th annual Grand Encampment Cowboy Gathering last weekend, the town of Encampment and the Grand Encampment Museum (GEM) will be hosting other events this weekend that will allow visitors to travel to an earlier time. The museum will be holding its Living History Day Saturday, and is welcoming visitors to come by for free to get a glimpse of life in Wyoming in the 1800s. King Coal Days didn’t happen last year, but Friday at 5 p.m., registration for weekend events at the Hanna Parks and Recreation Center will begin this year’s festivities. Friday evening features a DJ, a community barbecue, Texas Hold-em poker and a co-ed baseball game. Travelers entering Wyoming will soon be greeted by new Welcome to Wyoming signs, featuring a scenic view of the Lower Green River Lake and Squaretop Mountain. The Wyoming Department of Transportation's Sign Shop recently constructed the highly visible reflective signs, and department crews have been busy installing them. The Hanna Town Council met Tuesday to discuss the upcoming events for King Coal Days June 21-23. Before the meeting, there was a public hearing to discuss an open container permit requested by the Hanna Recreation Center for the King Coal Days celebration. The Saratoga Planning Commission met Tuesday for its monthly meeting, finishing in what one member called “record time,” but a letter from a Saratoga Town Council member slowed it a bit. The letter, read aloud during the meeting, was from Steve Wilcoxson, a member of the Saratoga Town Council. In the letter, Wilcoxson alleged that the concrete plant on the east end of town was in violation of zoning ordinances. The Saratoga Water and Sewer Joint Powers Board (Sewer Board) met Wednesday and held two meetings; the first its regular monthly meeting and the second a budget hearing to pass the board’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year. At the regular meeting, the board heard from a member of the public who expressed interest in putting a small mobile home or RV park near Chatterton and Sharp streets in the town of Saratoga.
