  • Grapplers head to State

    FW Broschart|Feb 22, 2017

The Saratoga High School Wrestling team performed well enough at regionals over the weekend in Dubois to send seven of eight wrestlers to State Finals in Casper this weekend. After what coach Zach Schmidt called a “flat start” Friday, team members regained the edge and went on to fight back and finish strong. But it wasn’t all good news for the team; two SHS wrestlers in the 160-pound class had to face off against one another. One wrestler went on to state, the other will stay home. “We ran into a little bit of back luck with some bracket... Full story

    FW Broschart|Feb 22, 2017

The Saratoga Community Garden, at its Monday meeting, discussed the process for the group to become a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit as well as preparations for the upcoming growing season. As a non-profit, the community garden would then manage its own funds and grants without relying on the town of Saratoga to act as a custodian of funds. The move to convert the group to a nonprofit group came after a controversial two months that saw members of the garden board pitted against town council members. In December, town council member Will Faust raised... Full story

  • Violating Squaker's Rights

    Keith McLendon|Feb 22, 2017

The Tuesday before last was Valentine’s Day. As is the tradition, a group of gregarious women from the Valley Service Organization visited businesses around town singing off-key tunes (hence the name “Sweetheart Squawkers”) until they are paid to leave. Normally I am receptive and amused by this gaggle of women’s antics. I am a known contributor to this valuable organization’s efforts at fundraising for good causes. But they showed up right at 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. This is really not a good... Full story

About six weeks out from a fight, Randy Speiser begins a transformation. Normally 220 pounds, the long-limbed Rawlins State Penitentiary Corrections Officer starts melting weight off by adhering to a diet and exercise regime he admits is "not pleasant." By weigh-ins, Speiser has become a new man: 185-pounds of tightly corded muscle, and not an ounce more.
