    Encampment K-12 School kicked off homecoming week with a pep assembly on Monday morning to show off the different dress up days to the students. The classes also watched a video about the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The Penny Wars end today. The the classes compete to raise money for the Wyoming chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation.   • Local Kiwanis turns 25, invites public to guest night

    The Platte Valley Kiwanis is celebrating their 25th anniversary in community service for the Platte Valley. As the club has aged, so have the members. Three members of the club are in their 80s and still active, former Kiwanis president Connie McGuire said. With that in mind, Kiwanis is looking for new members to help with its service projects. At 5:15 p.m., Feb. 17, Kiwanis will be hosting a guest night at their meeting place, the Saratoga Senior Center, where people who are not familiar with the club can come and find out what it is about.... Full story

    Lois Darlene Rupert, 83, of Dillon, Colo., since 1966 passed away on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at her home in Dillon. She was born on Aug. 6, 1933 in San Diego, Calif. to Milford and Ila Rupert, who have gone ahead. Californian by birth and Coloradoan by choice, Lois spent her youth going to the Saturday matinées at the Parkside Theater in San Francisco, Calif., loving the glamour, the clothes, the music, the dancing, and the happy endings.     Deadlines are fast approaching for the Upper Platte River Solid Waste Disposal District (Landfill Board).     Earl S. Seahorn (90) passed away in Wickenburg, Ariz., on Feb. 2, 2015. Earl was born, March 11, 1924 in Carbonhill, Alabama, the oldest of eight children born to Ben and Agnes Seahorn. Early in life the family moved to Wyoming to work in the coal mines and for the Union Pacific Railroad. During World War II, Earl enlisted in the Navy and served aboard a Naval Battleship in support of troop transport between the southern coast of England and the Beaches of Normandy.     As participants were signing up for the Sixth annual Snowy Range Poker Run, Homer Beach and Jim Piche were eating breakfast in The Rendezvous Lodge Saturday morning.     Luke Pantle, of Encampment K-12 School and Andrew Janecek-Oiler, of Saratoga High School, have been selected to receive the 2015 Trustees' Scholars Award, the University of Wyoming's top academic scholarship. The two Carbon County School District No.2 (CCSD#2) students are part of 88 high school seniors in Wyoming who were selected for the prestigious scholarship.     After a couple of difficult weeks, the Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech team brought home the 1A/2A Sweepstakes trophy from the Jackson Hole High School speech meet. The team competed against 10 other schools. Individual accomplishments included the duet team of Maya Zeiger and Lydia Smith earning a fifth place finish, Jacob Dickinson and Nick Smith grabbing third in duets .     There were eight here to play bingo on Tuesday. Two-dollar winners were Carl Kerbs, Winnie Allen, Nadine Kerbs, and Sue Howe. Nadine Kerbs won the $5 blackout round. There were eight here for Duplicate Bridge Jan. 26. High winners were Vivien Campbell and Mary Sjoden. Second high went to Bob Johnson and Gertrude Herold.
