Lady Tigers Eliminated at Regionals

Encampment gets one win but not enough to move forward.

It has been a rough roller coaster ride for the Encampment Lady Tigers, coming into the 1A West Regional Tournament with a six-game losing streak. Encampment was able to win one game but they ended up losing two games that sent them to an early exit out of Lander.

The Lady TIgers lost their first round game to the Riverside Lady Rebels, who were ranked 2nd in the 1A Northwest Conference. Kevin Pantle, head coach of the Encampment Lady Tigers, said his team just was not there in that game. He said his team was flat at the start of the game.

“We came out flat against Riverside,” Pantel said. “Our energy level was not where it should have been. “

The Lady Tigers finally got out of their slump and were able to get a successful win against the Meeteetse Lady Longhorns who were ranked 4th in the 1A Northwest Conference. Pantle said his girls performed extremely well in this game and they showed up to play.

“We had a lot more energy and effort in the Meeteetse game,” Pantle said. “Our pressure defense led to a faster-paced game, and that is what we needed to get going offensively. I was very happy with our hustle. Regin Stewart came to play and was aggressive the entire game. Kyenna Jackson had her best game of the season. I was very proud to see our girls finally turn the corner and show everyone what they are capable of.”

The Lady Tigers’ struggles with the Little Snake River Valley (LSRV) Rattlers still continued. This would be the Lady Tigers’ third meeting with their 1A Southwest Conference rivals who were ranked 2nd. The Lady Tigers gave the Lady Rattlers a better fight than they did in their last two previous meetings but in the end the Lady Rattlers showed why they are tough to beat as the Lady Tigers fell 46-39. Pantle said his girls gave it their all and knew that LSRV was not going to be easy. He also said he has enjoyed coaching his girls.

“I was very proud of the girls in the LSRV game,” Pantle said. “They gave it their all. We still turned the ball over too many times but our effort was there the entire game. We had a bad 2nd quarter only scoring 5 points and LSRV scoring 15 points. If it were not for the 2nd quarter I feel we would have beaten LSRV. But we didn’t and I have to congratulate the LSRV basketball team for a great game and wish them success at state. They are a good team that is loaded with talented seniors.“
