The Sun thanks you

It has been said that a community needs its newspaper. This is true. The community often depends upon its local paper from coverage of high school sports to reporting on the actions of the town council and everything in between. The newspaper, in many ways, serves as the conscience and the heart of the community.

What’s not stated as often, but perhaps should be, is that a newspaper needs its community. Any newspaper that strives to succeed realizes this and a good community newspaper should have involvement from its readers. Much like a governing body, a newspaper depends upon the voices of those it aims to represent to try and forge a path forward.

This support, this involvement, comes from more than just subscribers and advertisers, though they are important parts of the process. For many years, the Saratoga Sun has depended upon its community to keep it moving forward. Community members have given tips that have led to articles and have provided photos for everything from sporting events to school concerts.

It may go without saying that this support has always been appreciated, but we feel the need to say so now.

This past year was a difficult one for the Saratoga Sun and as we strived and, at times, struggled to move forward we did so with the support of our community. As always, there often seems to be more events taking place then there are people we can send. While the pages of our paper have often had a “photo courtesy,” those courtesies have been all the more appreciated.

The turning of the calendar not only marks the start of a new year, but the start of a new decade. Of course, for a newspaper that has been around for over 130 years, a decade is simply a drop in the bucket. For those who fill its pages with print and photos, it marks an important passage of time.

As the Sun prepares to turn a new page and continue moving forward with one foot in front of the other, we want those who support us to know that we do greatly appreciate it. Whether you are a subscriber, an advertiser, a contributing photographer or just one of the many people who stops in to tell us ‘good job‘, we are thankful for the support you provide us.

We will continue to work our hardest at providing the coverage you have come to expect from us; the breakdown of the last basketball game, the decisions made by the local government, introducing the newest business in eastern Carbon County and profiles of people within our community.

The Saratoga Sun thanks you for your trust and your support.

Happy New Year!
