Spring songs in Elk Mountain

Kids and youth choirs 'bring the spring' with recital Thursday

The Elk Mountain Kids Choir and the Elk Mountain Youth Choir performed together for the 5th annual Elk Mountain Spring Recital on May 10. There were solos in singing and playing the piano to entertain the packed Elk Mountain Country Church.

The two choirs were directed by Dawn Kenneda and the accompanist was Kay Grant. The Elk Mountain Kids Choir was comprised of Dakota Crites, Shaylee Crites, Loalei Grende, Jordann Grende, Holli Hays, Jake Hays, Nehemiah Hobbs, Israel Hobbs, Kaylee Johnson, Kadence Paulson, Payton Paulson, Lucia Schrock, Reata Schrock, Cole Shoyer, Sage Smith, Shylo Smith and Taylee Williams.

The Elk Mountain Youth Choir that performed at the music show were composed of Jaidyn Booth, Clair Hammond, Elizabeth Hammond, Allison Hammond, Alex Hazen, Amanda Hazen, Ellie Hobbs, Illiemay Hobbs, Kelby Hobbs, Morgan Kenneda, Frank Schrock, Anthony Solaas, Corbin Williams.

The music in the recital had music from broadway, traditional songs and a crowd favorite of a rendition of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." The last music from the concert were several songs from the show "Newsies." The kids donned newsboy hats, had dance moves and sang loudly.

D. Kenneda told the audience the choirs had rehearsed the songs from Newsies almost a dozen different times.

"These kids really worked hard," Kenneda said.

The reaction from the crowd when the recital was complete, was thunderous applause that reverberated throughout the small church.

The hard work had obviously paid off.
