Hytreks question landfill policies

Vince and Kim Hytrek, owners of Hytrek Tree Trimming Service, contacted Randy Raymer with the Platte Valley Solid Waste Disposal District (Landfill Board) because they had been turned away at the Encampment Transfer Station when delivering green refuse.

Green refuse is handled differently than solid waste because it can be burned, Raymer explained to the audience in attendance at the Landfill Board meeting.

Ron Munson, the contractor for the landfill in Saratoga and the transfer station in Encampment said that should not have happened.

Munson explained that large stumps and trees, which are difficult to burn are disposed in the construction/debris pit at the Saratoga Landfill, but that tree trimming can be dropped off at the transfer station in Encampment or at the landfill in Saratoga.

Kim Hytrek also questioned why she was being charged $52 per load at the Saratoga Landfill and not charged at the Encampment Transfer Station.

Munson told Hytrek she should only be charged $26 when delivering a load of commercial waste that is considered green waste.

Hytrek said she has been passing that cost on to her customers and they too had asked why it was so high.

Before the green waste can be burned at the landfill and transfer station, the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) issues a permit.

Because of that, the Landfill Board is looking at composting and chipping.

Hytrek said she would not seek to have the monies refunded that she had been overcharged as she recognized that was a part of owning a private business and she had already passed the cost on to her customers.

Raymer told the Hytreks if they ever question their bill or being turned away, to contact the Landfill Board or talk to Munson.
