Two Valley athletes named to track and field All-State

Saratoga senior Andrew Janecek-Oiler and sophomore McKenzie Powell were named to the Track and Field All-State.

To qualify, the athletes must place first or second in the state competition.

Both athletes placed first in their respective events.

It was the first time in their high school career that either student had qualified for all-state.

Janecek-Oiler said it was a great feeling. "I thought to myself, 'Wow, I am one of the best and it is great to see all my hard work pay off'."

Janecek-Oiler placed first in the pole-vault event with 13'. He broke the school record twice during the season.

McKenzie was excited, "Winning state is a big thing," she said.

When she got to the finish line in her 800-meter run, she said she was disappointed she didn't break the state record, a goal she has been working on all season.

She ran the 800-meter three times and shaved 10 seconds off from the first time she ran it.

Powell broke the school record twice as well.

Powell attends Encampment and Janecek-Oiler just graduated from Saratoga.
