Jeanette Romios

Jeanette Romios passed away at her home on the Romios Ranch southeast of Encampment on April 26. She was 79.

Mrs. Romios was born in Encampment on Oct. 1, 1935, the daughter of Oma and Lee Hammer. She attended Encampment schools. After her marriage on Oct. 10, 1951, to Pete F. Romios they lived on the Romios Ranch where they engaged in raising cattle and at times had a few sheep.

Her work revolved around the ranch as she helped with haying the summer, driving the power sweep. An avid hunter, she enjoyed deer and elk seasons when hunters spent time on the ranch as they were guided by Romios Ranch Outfitters, a business started by her husband, and carried on by her son and grandson.

In addition to rearing a son, William F. (Bill), and a daughter, Christine, she and Pete cared for Bob Vorn when he was a teenager and started working with them on the ranch. They also often had nieces and nephews living with their family.

She was an avid bowler and took part in leagues in both Saratoga and Walden for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards including pinochle and poker, and enjoyed knitting, making quilts and needlework for her home and for family members.

Mrs. Romios is survived by her son, Bill Romios, grandson Bruce Romios (Becky) and great-grandson Colin Romios, all of the family ranch near Encampment; daughter Cris Waldrip (Wade) and grandsons Cale (Jacinda) and Cody, of Rawlins; her sister Nellie Rose, of Riverton, and many nieces and nephews, close friends and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; her parents, Lee and Oma Hammer; brothers, R. L. "Mike" Hammer, Jim Hammer, Howard "Pat" Hammer, sisters, Mary Wiant, and Maxine Dettinger; Bob Vorn and grandson Ben Romios.

Memorials may be made to Ben Romios Memorial Scholarship through the Upper Valley Search and Rescue Unit.

At her request no services will be held.
