Another mixed weekend for Lady Tigers

The Encampment Lady Tigers varsity basketball team began their weekend with a loss to Cokeville and ended with a win against Farson-Eden.

The Lady Tigers (1-2 1A Southwest, 8-4 overall) were soundly defeated by the 1A Southwest conference leading Lady Panthers (3-0 1A Southwest, 15-0 overall) on Friday. The final score was 26-42.

Encampment coach Amy Clay said “Cokeville is a great team and they defend their home court well.” Clay added that the Lady Tigers never gave up, but they turned the ball over to Cokeville’s pressure man defense too many times.

Junior Alyssa Barkhurst lead the Encampment team at at Cokeville this weekend with 9 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Other players who put points on the board include junior Cassidy Littlle with 7 points and 7 rebounds, freshman Konnar Knotwell with 3 points and three rebounds, and freshman Micaiah Pantle with 3 points.

The story was different when Encampment won a hard-fought game in Farson on Saturday. The Lady Tigers took the Lady Pronghorn ( 0-3 1A Southwest 2-10 overall) 32-25. The Lady Pronghorn are ranked at the bottom of the 1A Southwest Conference by WyoPreps with the Lady Tigers holding the position above them. Little Snake River holds the second place in the four-team conference.

“I am proud of the girls for hanging tough. We are glad this long road trip is behind us,” Clay said. The coach noted that the focus during the Farson-Eden game was on offensive execution, but her team lacked discipline at times.

Team leaders in Farson were junior Cassidy Little with 15 points and 5 steals, and Barkhurst with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.

The Lady Tigers have a three game week with an away-game at Hanna yesterday, a cross-valley rivalry game at Saratoga, Friday at 4 p.m. and hosting the Little Snake River Vally girls Saturday at 4 p.m.
