Athletes earn gold at Special Olympics

Three Carbon County School District No. 2 athletes brought home several gold, silver and bronze medals from the Special Olympics this spring.

At the April 24 area games in Cheyenne, Allen Fairbanks, Kenny Wohl and Amanda Musacchio competed in track and field events and basketball skills, which were coached by Chuck Mollica, district occupational therapist. The three scored multiple medals and ribbons at the area games.

Kenny and Amanda also competed during May's state games in Laramie, and earned additional medals from that event. Kenny participated in the athlete input council where he shared his thoughts on changes for future games.

Kayla Samson joined the team at the state games to carry in the district banner for the opening ceremonies.

The athletes and their families enjoyed the state banquet and dance with the "Prom Night" theme, and enjoyed meeting new friends and becoming reacquainted with the athletes and families met in previous years.
