The Saratoga Middle School Girls Basketball season is now underway, with winning games played against Hanna-Elk Mountain-Medicine Bow (HEM) and Little Snake River.
The A Team kicked off the season with a big 45-7 win over HEM. The girls played HEM Friday and Little Snake River last Saturday, in what were their first two game days of the 2014 season.
“The team was shooting the lights out right away in the first quarter with 17 points, and at halftime the score was 23-2 with the Panthers in the lead,” said coach Scott Bokelman. “Aggressiveness was key for the girls going into the game, and their defense only allowed a few points per quarter for the Hanna Miners.”
Bokelman said the Panther B and C Teams also earned a win by playing good defense, and continuing to be aggressive offensively.
“The B Team’s score at half-time was 25-6, and they continued to work hard throughout the game to finish with a win,” he said. “The C Team only played two quarters, but managed to keep their opponents to only two points, ending with a final score of 12-2.”
Bokelman said the Saratoga A Team’s only weekend loss came from playing Little Snake River.
“Although the Panther’s A Team didn’t get a win against Little Snake River, they still played well,” Bokelman said. “Many of the girls are new to the A Team this year, but they still hustled and continued their aggressiveness offensively. Unfortunately, during this game they just had a hard time getting some of their shots to fall. The B Team’s great defense showed again during this game, only allowing the Rattlers seven points, and they executed their offenses well and were able to get a total of 22 points as a team.”
The Lady Panthers next play at 5 p.m. Thursday in Walden, Colo., and at home against Encampment starting at 4 p.m. on Friday. Game stats against HEM and Little Snake River are shown below:
