Weather quiets speech team

Snow and snow-covered roads prohibited the Carbon County School District No. 2 Speech Team from traveling to Worland for competition Friday. Results from the Jan. 3 and 4 competition were reported.

Head coach Brenda Ostendorf reported that Becca Treat placed fourth in poetry at the Jan. 3-4 competition. Treat and Kaylyn Wessel placed third in duet, with Wessel earning a third place nod in poetry. Nina Ford competed in the Lincoln-Douglas debate and earned fourth place. Aleck Freeman enter the semi-finals in drama.

“The exciting part of the competition involved two competitors receiving placements although it was the first time each had entered their categories,” Ostendorf said. Ford and Freeman were the competitors.

Robert Gates, Carbon County School District No. 2 Superintendent, and his wife Debbie attended the meet in Cheyenne Central, as did Ford’s parents Joe and Gail Ford, Ostendorf said.

The next meet is Friday and Saturday in Cheyenne, where the team will compete against 18 other schools.
