Riverside summer events discussed at town meeting

Safety and planning for Riverside’s recreational summer events were taken into consideration at the Riverside Town Council meeting Thursday.

Council members first discussed the Riverside Party Day set for Aug. 17, and what should be done about catering, cooking and types of food and drinks to be supplied. The town’s WHAT Fest music festival July 26-27 then came into concern because of predicted parking issues. Council members discussed possibly allowing parking on only one side of the street, and cones from the town to be set up in areas where parking would be prohibited during the two-day music fest.

It was also suggested that patrons staying at campgrounds for the WHAT Fest should park up by the rodeo grounds. Council members said they observed how some attendees of last year’s fest had parked along town side streets, and hardly ever went back to their vehicles during their overnight visit.

Vendor applications for those wishing to show arts and crafts or other items at the WHAT Fest were discussed, with a suggested deadline for submitted applications set at July 18.
