Impressed with quick response

Letter to the Editor

Editor: Our front porch caught on fire the night of St. Patrick’s day. The wind as we all know was bad. Everyone in the house was sleeping except for my son. I had been sleeping maybe 20 minutes when my son came and told me there was a fire. The flames were about three tall and spreading fast. The whole family immediately grabbed pots of water and put out the flames. I called the Saratoga dispatch, to have someone come out and make sure everything was completely out. In less than five minutes, a police officer, a fire crew, and a truck from Carbon Power and Light were on the scene. We realize that 911 should have been called first. With the wind blowing so hard, we just reacted. I would like to thank our town’s emergency response personnel. I was impressed with the amazingly swift response and professional manner they handled the situation. We are grateful you made sure we were safe. I also want to thank my 13-year- old son, Nick West. He kept a level head in a frightening and dangerous situation. If it wasn’t for his quick response, the story could have been very different! Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely, Renae R. West Saratoga
