    The Saratoga Town Council met for the first time this year at 6 p.m. Jan. 2 at the Saratoga Town Hall, to address issues that start at the beginning of every year. Banks designated as depositories for the town were Bank of Commerce, Bank of the West and Rawlins National Bank.     Marian Berger, long-time Saratoga rancher, passed away at the age of 89 in her home in Saratoga on January 2, 2018, surrounded by her family. Marian Claire Aden, the daughter of Lloyd Aden and Mary Paulson Aden, was born in Saratoga on May 1, 1928. She grew up the middle of three sisters. Marian attended Stephens College in Missouri where she was recognized as "Best Private Citizen" and graduated with a degree in communications.     “The Shatto is not a slouch of a tournament,” Zach Schmidt, head coach for Saratoga wrestling, said. “I knew going into it we were going to see a lot of tough competition.” Schmidt said the schools that came were mostly 3A and 4A teams.     Fresh off of winter break, the Encampment Lady Tigers enjoyed a double-win weekend against the Rock River Lady Longhorns and the Saratoga Lady Panthers.     The rise and fall of cheers and silence accompanied the Saratoga Panthers and the Encampment Tigers boys basketball game Friday night in the Panther Den. While the Tigers had dispatched the Rock River Longhorns easily enough the night before, they found their Valley rivals wouldn't go down without a fight.     Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) Lady Miners basketball team came out on top both Thursday and Saturday. Wheatland Lady Bulldogs Sophomores Wheatland Sophomores took on the HEM at 5:30 p.m. but struggled against the Lady Miners, losing 37-5.     Hanna, Elk Mountain, Medicine Bow (HEM) High School boys basketball team faced Wheatland sophomores on Thursday, that size and age actually matched up on paper fairly closely, but the Miners came out on top with a win, 60-36.     Around 500 spectators came to Saratoga for the 2nd Annual Skijoring Races over the weekend according to Will Faust. “We’ve certainly got some things we can improve on for next year,” Faust said, “Between Richard Raymer and Karl Smith, they did a bang-up job on the course.” Faust was pleased the event didn’t experience any major track maintenance issues like the year before.
